You can still sign up for garden waste collections

Release date:
Wednesday, 3 May, 2017

New chargeable garden waste collections have been introduced across Burnley borough from the beginning of this month.

More than 8,000 households have signed up to the service which offers fortnightly “green” garden waste collections, with the usual break over winter.

Residents can still sign up to the service which costs an annual fee of £30.

Joanne Swift, the council’s head of streetscene, said: “The new chargeable service began on 1st May. People who sign up receive a sticker for their brown wheelie bin which shows they are eligible for the collection service.

“Residents can sign up any time of the year if they want to take advantage of the service which offers and a quick and hassle-free collection of garden waste.

“Unfortunately the council, like many other local authorities across the country, could no longer afford to provide the non-statutory service without introducing a charge.”
