Abandoned Vehicles: Outline
Removal of any abandoned vehicle from the highway
The Council will deal with any vehicles reported as abandoned on local roads or property (usually including private property).
The vehicle will be removed if it is causing a public nuisance or has not been removed by the owner a specific length of time after a notice of removal has been placed on it.
If the vehicle is untaxed but is not abandoned and on the highway (not private land) it is a matter for the Police, telephone 0845 1 25 35 45 or the DVLA hotline 0300 790 6802 (Option 2) or use the online form below.
Report an untaxed vehicle to the DVLA
Additional information: In order for the investigating officer to go out and put a notice on the offending vehicle, please gather as much information as possible, for example, registration number, colour, manufacturer etc. This should help us to locate the vehicle and establish whether it has been abandoned.
