Council tax exemptions: Outline
Some dwellings are exempt from Council Tax. These include dwellings occupied wholly by students and most empty dwellings. There are several classes of exemption, some of which only apply for a specified length of time.

Dwellings that require or are undergoing structural alterations or major services
Dwellings that are Unfurnished
Dwellings left empty by someone who has gone into prison
Dwellings waiting for probate or letters of administration to be granted
Dwellings owned by charity
Dwellings left empty by someone who has moved to receive personal care in a hospital or home
Dwellings empty because their occupation is forbidden by law
Dwellings waiting to be occupied by a minister of religion
Dwellings left empty by someone who is living elsewhere to receive personal care
Dwellings left empty by someone who has moved in order to provide personal care to another person
Dwellings that have been repossessed
Dwellings that are the responsibility of a bankrupt's trustee
Dwellings occupied only by persons under 18 years old
Dwellings that are Granny Annexes
