Automatic fire alarms
The Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service carry out free home fire safety checks and will provide and install FREE 10-year smoke alarms where necessary. They will provide practical advice on identifying fire hazards in the home and show you how to make a fire escape plan for you and your family.

Additional information: Smoke alarms cost around £5 and are simple to install. They are widely available from DIY, hardware and electrical shops and some supermarkets. Choose an alarm which meets British Standard BS5446 Part 1 and carries the Kitemark. Further advice on purchasing and fitting smoke alarms can be found at www.firekills.gov.uk (!). They also provide advice on planning escape routes.
