Where do I deliver to and how do I get my stock to my unit?

There is a ground floor service area where you can park your vehicle while you deliver stock to your unit. It serves not only the market, but also is the service area for shops based around the market. It can get busy and you will need to get into a routine to work out when you need to stock up.

You can leave your vehicle in one of the bays providing you keep your flashing hazard lights on. This is to prevent vehicles just being left there and preventing access for others. It drains the battery so it encourages you not to stay too long!

Clamping contractors periodically visit at random and clamp any vehicles not using warning hazard lights so beware. We have to be strict otherwise we get not only traders looking to park all day but also the public. If this happens the whole system grinds to a halt, so we have to enforce this.

Getting stock up to the trading area

We have two heavy-duty goods lifts. While they can take some "punishment" please try to avoid this. It costs a lot to repair, inconveniences you and others if a lift is out of action, and at the end of the day is reflected in what you pay through the service charge.

Remember to close inner and outer doors when leaving the lift otherwise others cannot call it down or up again.

Can I get stock in any other way?

Yes, but only by prior arrangement by using the open market service deck. It is there to service the open market so it needs to be co-ordinated with the priorities of those that use the open market. There is a 4-ton axle weight limit.

Are my units secure?

It is your responsibility to secure your unit. You are responsible for your stock. Some tenants put in shutters, some use curtains. Either way we recommend "locking down" when not there.

We have deliveries taking place from, as early as 7am some days, and therefore access has to be available to get into the Market Hall.

Security

We have supervisors on duty who also have a remit to try to keep an eye on things overall. They are not responsible for the security of your stock – you are. The building is large, covers three floors and supervisors need to patrol a number of areas regularly. Tenants work closely with them and if any unusual circumstances are seen supervisors are usually contacted to investigate.

We have had very few incidents. We have had some early morning attempts to steal from units but any success, while rare, has generally been where the units have not been securely locked down.

We know tenants generally keep an eye out for each other but making access to units difficult in the first place is by far the best prevention.
