This is Burnley
Burnley has made a great deal of progress in recent years. There is a clear sense of vision for the town with the community, public and private sector companies working together to make a lasting difference, and the birth of a new Burnley is well underway.
The 'This is Burnley' website has been developed following an event organised by the North West Development Agency and Burnley Council to bring together a wide range of people and organisations to provide a picture of initiatives taking place in Burnley today, to look at ways of how we might work better together to create the new vision for Burnley, and raise awareness and provide contact details of 'on the ground' groups who are delivering the change.
This event also formed part of the consultation process for the production of Burnley's new, ambitious community strategy -produced in close partnership with the private, public and voluntary sector - setting out a 10 year vision to make Burnley the place that everyone wants it to become.
An important feature of the 'This is Burnley' event was the involvement of the Prince of Wales charities who have agreed to work with us to look at ways of supporting the implementation of our vision, key features of which include :
- Burnley vision including Town Centre Masterplanning;
- Housing and Social Cohesion;
- Education and Skills; and
- Environment including local action on climate change.
Key partners gave presentations on each of the four themes (video footage of each presentation can be viewed on this website) explaining current activity; gaps in activity; stimulating thoughts on potential priorities for future action. A Question & Answer session and discussion followed each of the presentations.
The conference concluded by inviting stakeholders to agree on and sign up to help develop priority actions, providing a focus for the new community strategy and potential future involvement of the Prince of Wales' charities.
