Burnley Council Appoints New Personnel Head

Published Thursday 20th April 06

Burnley Council has appointed a new head for its personnel department.

David Wilcock, who is presently the Council's Head of Legal Services, will continue in his current role as well as taking up his new position. He will replace John Booth, who is retiring as Head of Personnel after 13 years in the role.

David joined Burnley Council in 2004 and is currently managing the legal support programme for the Elevate programme and other major redevelopment projects in the area.

Through his new role he will now also oversee the merger of the Council's legal services and personnel departments into one unit.

David Wilcock said: "I have been fortunate enough to work closely with John Booth over a number of issues already so hopefully I will be sufficiently prepared for the challenges that await me in this role.

"Whilst the legal and personnel functions are perceived as separate activities, there are clear links between the work of both teams that the Council can use to positive effect."

Prior to joining Burnley Council, David was with the Office of the Legal Services Ombudsmman for four years plus the Greater Manchester Pension Fund for 11 years. He also worked with Tameside Council for six years.
