Burnley Borough Council

Burnley 06 - The Real Story

Real Story Cover

Burnley is changing - as it has before at many points in our history.

This report, published by the Social and Community Cohesion Group of Burnley Action Partnership (Local Strategic Partnership), takes stock of where the borough is up to on a range of key issues:

  • Housing
  • Education
  • Crime and community safety
  • Jobs and the economy
  • Health
  • Neighbourhood Regeneration

Connecting issues...

The report shows how all of these issues connect to work that is well underway in Burnley - work to build up understanding and good relations between the different communities who make up the town - white residents, Asian heritage residents, people in different neighbourhoods across the borough

Positive work taking place...

Overall, and on every theme it covers, the report openly acknowledges the real challenges that Burnley still faces, but most of all this report highlights all the positive work that is going on to overcome these challenges and make the most of the opportunities that Burnley now has - St. Peter's Centre, the new bus station, the planned Oval Development. New schools and children's centres. Housing renewal.

Our new reputation...

Burnley is a town still working to overcome a range of serious challenges and divisions, but facing up to them honestly; a place with a great deal going for it, determined to make the most of the investment we are attracting and the opportunities we are making; people confident about living together and celebrating all we have in common - these are the things that we're growing our new reputation around.

This is the real story - Burnley 2006.
