Northern Powerhouse Minister officially opens Innovation Drive

The Northern Powerhouse Minister, Andrew Percy, MP, officially opened Burnley’s state-of-the-art engineering supply park, Innovation Drive this morning.

Based at the former site of a Michelin Tyre factory, Innovation Drive is a 400,000 sq ft Advanced Engineering and technology business hub, which is now home to major AEM, aerospace and technology business and SMEs including Kaman Tooling, BCW Engineering, Safran Nacelles and the Lancashire Digital Technology Centre (LDTC).

Burnley Council has been recognised for its partnership work with business to develop economic growth in the area.

The shortlist for the national Local Government Chronicle Awards has just been announced, and Burnley has taken a place in the ‘Driving Growth’ category.

Burnley tops digital jobs growth tables

Figures just released by the ONS Business Register and Employment Survey (BRES), show Burnley ranks an impressive second place for digital jobs growth in Britain.

The survey also showed Burnley continues to buck regional and national trends in overall private sector jobs growth.

Jobs growth in the digital sector is where Burnley really shone, with a yearly growth during 2014-15 of a whopping 161.8% - against NW growth of just 30.0% and GB growth of 2% in digital jobs.

'High 5s' for top-scoring food businesses in Burnley

The family-run café Little Barista is one of the businesses in Burnley celebrating ‘top scores on the doors’ this month.

The café, which is a home to organic coffee and mouth-watering homemade food, scooped the maximum rating of five in the latest round of inspections by Burnley Council.

Andrea Insel, who owns and manages Little Barista together with her husband Ali, said: "We’re delighted to receive the highest food hygiene score and are already proudly showing it off to our customers.
