Results of consultation on Padiham heritage plans

The results of a public consultation on a draft management plan aimed at helping protect and enhance the special interest of Padiham conservation area will be reported to councilors next month (June).

The Padiham Conservation Area Management Plan outlines the measures for preservation and enhancement of the area for the period 2017 to 2027. 

The draft plan was the subject of a five-week consultation which encouraged local residents, businesses and organisations to give their views and put forward suggestions. Those views were taken into account and the plan modified.

Burnley children give their nursery a spring clean

Burnley’s youngest litter pickers have rolled up their sleeves to give their nursery school a spring clean.

Kitted up in their new high-vis jackets, pickers and gloves, Whitegate Nursery School toddlers spent time in the sunshine picking up rubbish around their nursery.

The three-year-olds got rid of sweet wrappers, crisp packets, and drinks cartons.

The Burnley Council co-ordinated activity aimed at teaching the youngest residents about the impact of littering and encouraging them to look after their environment.

New Mayor of Burnley takes office

Councillor Howard Baker has been installed as the Mayor of Burnley for the coming year during a ceremony at the town hall.

Coun. Baker took over the role from Councillor Jeff Sumner in front of other councilors, family and friends in a packed council chamber

He was joined by his partner Tracey Rhodes who will act as Mayoress.

Coun. Baker, who runs a local estate agency, said he would use the Mayor’s charity fund to help local people and groups to have access to funding that might not otherwise be available.

Brass band season soon to blast off in Burnley

The summer is just around the corner and the programme of free concerts for Burnley’s award-winning parks will soon be getting underway.

Brass in the Parks 2017 commences on Sunday, 4th June, with Pendle Jazzmen performing at the recently opened bandstand in Padiham Memorial Park.

The event, which takes place between 2-4pm, will be followed by a number of further concerts across Burnley’s parks:

Consultation on Burnley Local Plan enters its final three weeks

The deadline is approaching on the formal consultation for final representations on the draft Burnley Local Plan.

The council approved the Proposed Submission Plan at the end of March, and a formal consultation for final representations is currently underway and will run up to and including Friday 26th May.

A council spokesperson said: “The Proposed Submission Plan is on the council’s website and printed copies are available to view at Contact Burnley, Burnley Central Library and Padiham Library.

Painting Padiham promises perfect pictures

Professional and budding artists are set to pick up their paintbrushes and descend to Padiham for an open-air painting competition on Saturday 13th May.

The first ever Painting Padiham event will see artists of all skills competing against each other using a wide range of styles and media.

The event will kick off at 8am at the newly opened the Storm Art Gallery in Burnley Road, where artists will receive their painting supplies before occupying their spots.

They will be dotted within a one-mile radius around Padiham Town Hall capturing scenes of the town.

Burnley’s historic house launches new website

When the new meets the old - 21st Century technology is helping people to look into Towneley Hall’s past and present.

Burnley’s “jewel in the crown” has rolled out a new website that will make finding out about the events and exhibitions held at the historic Burnley building easier.

The vibrant website, designed by Burnley Council’s graphics team, showcases a comprehensive list of all social and historical events coming to the hall and the award-winning park.

Stunning photographs showcase Burnley’s talented snappers

Eye-catching images of picturesque countryside and colourful birds are among those on show at a photo exhibition in Burnley.

Professional and amateur photographers from Burnley Camera Club have staged the annual exhibition at Towneley Hall to mark the start of a new photography season.

The club has a membership of more than 30 members, and has chosen over 40 special photos to display at the exhibition, which they hope will inspire an interest in the photography.

On your marks as football stars launch Burnley 10K

One of Lancashire’s premier 10Ks got off to a Premier League start when Burnley FC stars turned out to kick off the countdown to race day.

And with 2017 marking the fifth running of the event, around 2,000 runners are expected to pull on their trainers on Sunday 4th June to be part of the celebrations.

The run is expected to generate a huge boost for local good causes.

ATC cadets presented with Certificate of Honour

Guests and Civic leaders gathered at Burnley Town Hall to watch local young air cadets receive a Certificate of Honour to mark their contribution to the community.

Members of the 352 (Burnley Squadron Air Training Corps) were praised by the Mayor of Burnley, Councillor Jeff Sumner, for their hard work and dedication. The presentation event (Friday 7th) was held as part of the Squadron’s 75th anniversary celebrations.
