The countdown is on to Burnley’s first ever Literary Festival - a ten day festival, over the half term period, between the 29th October and 7th November, with events taking place across Burney Town Centre.
Burnley’s central library had the atmosphere of a Parisian boulevard on Saturday 15th October, as the venue was transformed into a European cultural centre to celebrate the latest award to be given to the town.
French tricolours flew alongside the Union Jack, an accordionist played French style music, and there were Madeleine cakes for guests. A French style café, films, exhibitions and even a magic show added to the atmosphere.
A man has been fined after being spotted driving a taxi in Burnley without a private hire licence.
Abdul Majeed, of Albert Street, Brierfield, pleaded guilty driving a private hire vehicle without a current licence, and guilty to using a vehicle without insurance. He was fined £120 and ordered to pay £200 costs and a £30 victim surcharge by Burnley magistrates. He also had eight penalty points put on his driving licence.
