Burnley Mayor appointed to House of Lords
The Mayor of Burnley, Councillor Wajid Khan, has been appointed to the House of Lords as a Life Peer.
The appointment was announced by the Prime Minister's Office yesterday (Tues 22nd).
Coun. Khan was nominated for the honour by the leader of the Labour Party, Sir Keir Starmer. He becomes the youngest Opposition Peer in the House of Lords. Coun. Khan also becomes the borough's first Peer since Willis Jackson was appointed Baron Jackson of Burnley in 1967.
Coun. Khan's official title will be decided shortly.
