The Mayor of Burnley, Councillor Wajid Khan, has been appointed to the House of Lords as a Life Peer.

The appointment was announced by the Prime Minister's Office yesterday (Tues 22nd).

Coun. Khan was nominated for the honour by the leader of the Labour Party, Sir Keir Starmer. He becomes the youngest Opposition Peer in the House of Lords. Coun. Khan also becomes the borough's first Peer since Willis Jackson was appointed Baron Jackson of Burnley in 1967.

Coun. Khan's official title will be decided shortly.

Make it a Christmas cracker for recycling

Burnley Council is urging residents to make it a cracker of a Christmas when it comes to recycling.

With Christmas almost here it’s more important than ever for people to start thinking about recycling over the festive period. By doing this people can help protect the environment and cut down on the amount of waste going into their general household waste bin, preventing it from filling up too quickly.
