The launch of Burnley’s Dementia Café takes place on Wednesday 7th December. The new facility is being delivered by the Alzheimer’s Society, in partnership with Burnley FC in the Community. The venue is in the Jimmy McIlroy stand at Turf Moor from 1pm – 3pm.
Going forward, the café sessions will be held on the first Wednesday of each month from 1 pm to 3 pm.
Councillor Margaret Lishman, who is Chair of the local Dementia Action Alliance, strongly welcomed the initiative. She said ‘this café will provide an enjoyable, safe, comfortable and supportive environment for people with dementia and their carers to come together and share experiences. It gives everybody a chance to access information, advice and talk to others in a similar situation”.
The launch event will include Christmas carols alongside regular dementia café activities. Wiltshire Farm Foods have also very kindly donated mince pies for the launch.
As well as people interested in using the new café, health care professionals, the media and related services are invited to attend the launch
The organisers would like to hear back from people who are planning to come along, so that they can gauge numbers. They are on 01282 421233 or eastlancashire@alzheimers.org.uk
All attendees to the event will be in with the chance of winning a signed Burnley FC shirt.
