When the new meets the old - 21st Century technology is helping people to look into Towneley Hall’s past and present.
Burnley’s “jewel in the crown” has rolled out a new website that will make finding out about the events and exhibitions held at the historic Burnley building easier.
The vibrant website, designed by Burnley Council’s graphics team, showcases a comprehensive list of all social and historical events coming to the hall and the award-winning park.
Featuring a wide range of information set against a simple white background and a responsive design optimised for viewing on all platforms - desktop, tablet, and smartphone - the website has a clean accessible look and feel that reflects the spirit of Burnley's popular visitor destination.
The site has a great focus on photography, easy-to-read headings, and simple user-journeys whilst highlighting the hall’s compelling content.
Visitors to the homepage are able to see, at a glance, some of the current and upcoming events and exhibitions as well as find out the stories behind some of the historic artefacts housed at Towneley.
People can also explore additional pages to unearth incredible stories surrounding the hall, which dates back to the 14th Century and was the home of the Towneley family for more than 500 years.
Towneley Hall manager Ken Darwen said: "The hall is one of the most important cultural buildings within the borough; it houses pieces and artefacts that detail, outline and present our collective shared history.
“The new website takes users on a journey through the town's history via the museum's galleries and collections and serves as a leading destination for those wanting to discover Burnley.
“It also allows residents and visitors alike to discover the vast array of activities and events available to them."
