Senior management restructure put in place
Following decisions last month to bring in a new operating model for Burnley Council’s senior management, Mick Cartledge has now been appointed to the post of Chief Operating Officer.
As part of the changes, two high-level posts of Director of Community Services and Director of Resources have been cut from the Council’s structure and replaced by one post of Chief Operating Officer.
Mr Cartledge, who was previously Director of Community Services, will now work closely with the Chief Executive, Pam Smith, in the management and delivery of the full range of Council services and activities.
The change is part of an orderly process of restructuring, which is taking place in the context of big funding reductions. The Council workforce overall has reduced from 344 full time equivalent jobs in March 2015 to 220 jobs.
Executive Member for Resources, Councillor Wajid Khan, said “it is important that the Council has the leadership capacity to deliver its services effectively and to meet future challenges, whilst ensuring that its management structure matches the changing size and focus of the organisation. Mick is a very experienced officer, with a long record of service to Burnley, and his promotion to this role is an important step forward for the Council”.
