Changes to annual council meetings due to Covid

Release date:
Monday, 17 May, 2021
Burnley Borough Council will hold its annual and appointments council meetings at the Mechanics Theatre, Burnley from 6pm on Wednesday (19th).

This change of venue is due to the council chamber in Burnley Town Hall not being able to safely accommodate attendees in compliance with Covid-19 guidance.

Council meetings must be open to the public, but this must be managed in line with Government restrictions and public health advice.

Therefore, the number of spaces available to the public for each meeting is limited to five people to enable social distancing and keep everyone present safe.

In making the meetings widely available to members of the public they will be streamed live via YouTube at the following links:

The annual council meeting to appoint the new Mayor of Burnley will be a scaled back event with the minimum of ceremony. The speeches and other ceremonial aspects of the meeting will be deferred to a later meeting of the council when Covid-19 restrictions have been further eased.
