Oscar winner and former Mayor receive top honours

Release date:
Thursday, 21 October, 2021
Two local men have received top Civic honours from Burnley Council in recognition of their long-standing service to the borough.

Local businessman Mark Crabtree was awarded the Freedom of the Borough, and former Mayor and councillor Andy Tatchell was made an Alderman, during ceremonies at Burnley Mechanics Theatre.

Mr Crabtree, founder and managing director of Burnley-based AMS Neve, took his business from his kitchen to become a world-leading company, helping to provide the soundtracks for leading musicians and Hollywood blockbusters which led to the company being awarded two Oscars.

He said: "I’m enormously proud to receive this great honour from my home borough of Burnley.
"We have all played our part in bringing back Burnley to its current state. Now we have to focus on sustainability. Young people are the future of our great town."

Mr Tatchell first became a councillor in 1999, initially representing Hapton with Park ward before being elected in Gawthorpe in 2003 where he remained as councillor until his retirement in May 2021.

In his time on the council he served on the executive, and as deputy leader and Chair of the scrutiny committee. He was Mayor of Burnley in 2014/15 and Mayor of Padiham Town Council in 2005 and 2018.

He said: "It gives me great pleasure to accept the award of Alderman of Burnley, especially as it is bestowed by fellow councillors of all parties who I worked with for many, many years."
