A special meeting will be held at Burnley Town Hall on Wednesday 6th September. Councillor will be asked to ratify the recommendation of the Appointments Committee that Mick Cartledge be selected as Burnley Council's new Chief Executive.
Mr Cartledge is currently the Chief Operating Officer at Burnley. The appointment comes after a robust recruitment process.
A Burnley councillor’s work to champion “Dementia Friendly” approaches is being highlighted in a national campaign by the Local Government Information Unit.
The organisation, which promotes good practice in the public sector, has published a special post on its website focusing on Councillor Margaret Lishman and her involvement in Burnley’s campaign to raise awareness of dementia and its impact on those affected and on those around them.

All welcome at important commemoration event
Burnley Council has released details about the next event being held as part of the borough’s programme of ‘respectful remembrance’ in relation to the First World War.
The event will be held on Saturday 2nd September in the town’s Peace Garden, outside the Central Library, from 11am.
The focus will be a commemoration of two Burnley soldiers who were awarded the Victoria Cross, Britain’s highest military honour, for their bravery during the conflict.

Residents and visitors are invited to join in an action-packed afternoon on Sunday, 20th August, between noon and 4pm.
The programme of activities will have something for everyone including archery, small fairground rides, music, food stalls, face painting and craft activities.
Burnley Council leader Mark Townsend will hold his next “out and about” surgery on Saturday 19th August in Burnley town centre between 10.30am and 12.30pm.
Councillor Townsend said: “I invite anyone to come along and talk through any issues or concerns they have. These Out and About surgeries are an opportunity for people to talk to me face-to-face about things that matter to them and their community.”

Civic leader writes to crew members of naval ship that Burnley adopted
Former crew members from HMS Active, the Royal Navy ship which was “adopted” by Burnley, are this week taking part in a commemoration and reunion event to mark the 35th anniversary of their participation in the Falklands conflict in 1982.
The gathering is taking place in Plymouth on Friday evening 4th August.
Burnley Council has worked with partners, including the police, to address concerns and issues raised by residents in Padiham.
A range of measures have been introduced to reduce crime and anti-social behavior, and increase pro-active work, especially with young people.
