Stunning photographs showcase Burnley’s talented snappers

Eye-catching images of picturesque countryside and colourful birds are among those on show at a photo exhibition in Burnley.

Professional and amateur photographers from Burnley Camera Club have staged the annual exhibition at Towneley Hall to mark the start of a new photography season.

The club has a membership of more than 30 members, and has chosen over 40 special photos to display at the exhibition, which they hope will inspire an interest in the photography.

On your marks as football stars launch Burnley 10K

One of Lancashire’s premier 10Ks got off to a Premier League start when Burnley FC stars turned out to kick off the countdown to race day.

And with 2017 marking the fifth running of the event, around 2,000 runners are expected to pull on their trainers on Sunday 4th June to be part of the celebrations.

The run is expected to generate a huge boost for local good causes.

Kingdom littering and dog fouling patrols begin

Burnley Council is furthering strengthening its campaign to keep the streets of Burnley as clean as possible.

The council’s head of Streetscene, Joanne Swift, said: “As from today, if you drop litter, including chewing gum, or fail to clean up after your dog you risk being issued with a £75 fine.

“Enforcement officers will be patrolling across the borough to help keep our streets and neighbourhoods clean and tidy.”

Buzzing about Burnley at a national conference

A council manager from Burnley has spoken at a national conference to highlight bee-friendly practice in the borough.

At the Bee Summit in London, head of greenspaces Simon Goff shared how reducing grass cutting and planting wildflowers helps protect UK’s under-threat bee population, at the same time helping cash-strapped councils save money.

It was estimated by the council that the meadow management in Burnley has made an annual saving of £58,000 with the figure expected to increase.

Burnley set to rock with live music weekend

Burnley is set to hit the right note with three days of live music events during the Easter break.

The first ever Burnley Live Music Weekend in Burnley town centre kicks off on Good Friday, 14th April, with a series of free and low cost events.

The bumper weekend of entertainment will offer a line-up of live performances across town centre venues including the Paddock, Sanctuary Rock Bar, Remedy Gin Bar Burnley, Mojito’s, Mr Greens, Illuminati and the Inn on the Wharf, to name just a few.

Make sure you can have your say

Time is running out for people across Burnley borough to make sure they are eligible to vote in the Lancashire County Council election and Directly Elected Mayor referendum on 4th May.

In order to have your say you must be registered to vote. Poll cards are currently being delivered across the borough – if you receive one you are registered to vote.

However, if you don’t, or you’re not sure if you are registered, the deadline to do so is Thursday 13th April.

Public asked their views on Padiham’s heritage plans

Residents and businesses are being asked their views on a draft management plan aimed at helping protect and enhance the special interest of Padiham conservation area.

The Padiham Conservation Area Management Plan outlines the measures for preservation and enhancement of the area for the period 2017 to 2027.  The involvement of the local community in preparing the management plan is an essential part of the process and the council is holding a public consultation on the draft plan between 27th March - 28th April.
