The council is asking for feedback from the public on ways of building controls into our planning process to help clean up the air quality in our borough.
An Air Quality Management: Protecting Health and Addressing Climate Change Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) is being prepared by the council as part of its planning policy framework.
The council is inviting people to comment on a draft of this document as part of a public consultation.
The SPD supplements the policies of Burnley’s Local Plan 2012-2032.
Whilst the primary focus of this SPD is on the transport impacts of new development in relation to air quality and the direct impacts on health, it is also recognised that reducing and mitigating air pollution from transport emissions has benefits in relation to addressing climate change.

Paper copies are available at the council’s Contact Burnley offices and Burnley and Padiham libraries.
If you wish to submit comments on the draft SPD these should be received by the council no later than 5pm on Thursday 9th April in order make sure they can be taken into consideration.

A revised SPD will be prepared taking into account the consultation responses received and will be presented to the council's executive for formal adoption in summer 2020.
