Heritage Conservation

The borough’s heritage assets are a finite resource which once lost are impossible to replace. The borough’s heritage assets include:

The Council’s through its planning functions and wider activities seeks to conserve and enhance these assets, including through:

  • Producing guidance and policy documents e.g. the Local Plan and SPDs
  • The designation and review of conservation areas including the preparation of conservation area appraisals and management plans
  • Maintaining a list of locally important heritage assets (The Local List)
  • Monitoring listed buildings at risk from neglect and decay and working with owners to secure their repair and reuse
  • Identifying grant and funding opportunities
  • Engaging local people in discovering, presenting and conserving the borough’s heritage and offering help, advice and information as appropriate and as resources permit
