Shopfront & Advertisement Design SPD

The Shopfront and Advertisement Design Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) was adopted by Burnley Council on 18 June 2019.

The SPD forms part of the Council’s ongoing efforts to improve the vitality and viability of the Borough’s town centres. It supports the planning policies of the adopted Local Plan and has been developed for use in relevant planning decisions where it will be a ‘material consideration’. Although applying principally to the town centres of Burnley and Padiham, there are a small number of shops in the Borough’s villages and in District Centres and the guidance is also applicable here.

The SPD and accompanying Adoption Statement are available to download through the links below or through the 'downloads' section on the rights hand side of this page.

Paper copies are also available to view at the Council’s Contact Burnley office and Burnley and Padiham Libraries during their opening hours.

Preparation

The Council prepared and invited representations on a draft version of the SPD over a 6-week period from Friday 1st February 2019 to Friday 15th March 2019. A schedule summarising the responses received and changes agreed can be seen as an appendix to Item 4 of the Executive Report by following the link below.
