Applications will often specify which class of the Use Classes Order the proposal falls within. These are as follows:-
Class A1 - Shops
Class A2 - Financial and professional services where the services are provided principally to visiting members of the public
Class A3 - Restaurants, snack bars and cafes
Class A4 - Pubs and bars
Class A5 - Take-aways
Class B1 - Business - offices or light industrial uses which can be carried out in any residential area without detriment to amenity
Class B2 - General and Special Industrial groups
Class B8 - Storage or distribution
Class C1 - Hotels and hostels where no significant element of care is provided
Class C2 - Residential care homes, hospitals, nursing homes, boarding schools, residential colleges and training centres
ClassC2A - Secure residential institution, including prisons, detention cntre, secure hospital or local authority accommodation; military barracks.
Class C3A - Dwelling houses - single household
Class C3B - up to 6 people living together as a single household and receiving care eg a supported housing scheme
Class C3C - groups of up to 6 people living together as a single household but not covered by C3B or C4, eg a small religious community, or homeowner with lodger/s
Class C4 - Houses in multiple occupation; shared dwellings ocupied by between 3 and 6 unrelated people as their main residence, who share basic amenities such as a kitchen or bathroom
Class D1 - Non-residential institutions - including for medical services, for education or worship and religious instruction
Class D2 - Cinemas, music and concert halls; Sports halls, swimming baths, skating rinks and gymnasiums; other indoor and outdoor sports and leisure uses including bingo halls and casinos
