Burnley Council will aim to
· Continuously clean town centres
· Remove accumulations of rubbish from council land
· Empty litter bins before they are full
· Help with your locally organised clean-ups
Street litter bins
The council provide and maintain litter bins to try and prevent littering in public places.
The Environmental Protection Act of 1990 states that if a person drops, throws, deposits, or leaves anything that causes defacement in a public place, they are committing a littering offence. So always try to use a litter bin or take it home.
If you need to report a damaged bin, request a new one or for one to be emptied please contact us on the details below.
Littering
The penalty for dropping litter is £75.00. If you see someone dropping litter, please record as much information as possible. If you can provide details such as the person or company name, vehicle registration number, date, time and location and we will investigate.
Syringes
We advise members of the public not to pick up needles, unless it poses an immediate danger to you or other residents.
You will need to report any discarded syringes to the Streetscene Unit.
Please note if any needles or syringes etc. are found on educational premises during working hours, this should be reported immediately to the premises directly where staff on site are trained to deal with such items.
